Start from the last four weeks
Goals should come from your log, not your mood. Add up the last four weeks, divide by four for a weekly average, and multiply by about 4.3 for a month. Start just 10% above that. No history yet? Ride for two weeks without a goal first.
What each goal is for
| Goal | Job | How to set it |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | The “should I go out?” nudge | Low, about one short commute |
| Weekly | The promise you actually keep | Last four weeks’ average + 10% |
| Monthly | Scoreboard and season comparison | About weekly × 4, with weather slack |
A high daily goal turns every rest day into a failure. Treat daily as the threshold, weekly as the promise and monthly as the report card. More on sizing in how small a habit goal should be.
Work back from a big goal
| Big goal | Time | Weekly distance |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 km total | 6 months (about 26 weeks) | about 39 km |
| 633 km of training before a tour | 3 months (about 13 weeks) | about 49 km |
| 3,000 km in a year | 52 weeks | about 58 km |
Around 50 km a week is a 5 km one-way commute five days a week (see commute maths).
After a missed month
- Do not carry the shortfall forward. Chasing it in one go is how people overdo it.
- Read your memos: weather (winter, rainy season) or schedule? If weather, lower that season only.
- Two missed months in a row: reset to your last four weeks’ average.
Setting goals in the app
Enter three numbers
In Daily Bike Log, go to Settings, then Goal settings, and enter daily, weekly and monthly targets in km. A fresh install starts at 10 km a day, 50 km a week and 200 km a month, so adjust them to your log.

Watch Today’s goals
Today’s goals on the Log tab shows three progress bars. Weekly counts Monday to today, monthly counts the 1st to today, and going over shows more than 100% (for example 200%).

Badges as milestones
Badges at 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 km total work as stepping stones. Badges / Achievements shows what you have and what is next.
Screenshots show the app in English with sample rides; dates use the year-month-day format.
FAQ
If I add an earlier ride, does it count this week?
If you set the date to a day within this week, yes. A date in last week does not change this week’s progress.
