What IP68 means
Samsung’s support guidance describes IPx7 as 1 m depth for 30 minutes and IPx8 as 1.5 m for 30 minutes, tested in fresh water. That isn’t an invitation to swim with it, and conditions vary by model, so check your phone’s own documentation.
Liquids and conditions to avoid
| Situation | Samsung guidance |
|---|---|
| Seawater, pool water | Avoid |
| Soapy water, oils, perfume, sunscreen, hand sanitiser, cosmetics | Avoid |
| Rapid temperature changes, such as saunas | Can damage water resistance |
| High-pressure water | Avoid |
| Exposed to anything other than fresh water | Rinse in clean water straight away |
A summer day at the pool or beach ticks almost every box at once: sunscreen on your hands, salt water, chlorinated water.
After-swim routine
- If it touched seawater or pool water, rinse it gently in clean water.
- Wipe it with a soft cloth and tap it out, speaker and port facing down.
- Don’t charge until the port is dry. Apple suggests at least 30 minutes.
- No hair dryer, no compressed air.
- If the speaker sounds muffled, run water eject as below.
Clear the speaker

Standard 165Hz, 20 s × 2
On SonicKit’s Water tab, hold the phone speaker-down and run Standard 165Hz with Repeat set to 2x. It works offline, so you can do it at the beach.

Shake out the sand
After a beach day, once the phone is dry, run Full sweep on the Dust tab to loosen sand and grit, then brush the grille with a soft brush.
A waterproof pouch is another option. Expect the speaker to sound quieter through the pouch.
FAQ
Can I take calls in the rain?
Clean rainwater within the rating is usually fine. Just don’t charge with a wet port, and clear the speaker if it sounds muffled.
Can I take photos in the pool?
Samsung says to avoid pool water. If you must, use a waterproof pouch and rinse the phone in clean water afterwards.
