Seven common mistakes
| Mistake | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Writing without an outline, then rewriting | Time pressure | Five-line outline on scrap paper first |
| Last sheet half empty | No feel for how much fits | Know how many sentences fit on one sheet in your handwriting |
| No empty first cell for a new paragraph | Typing habits | Touch the first cell before each paragraph |
| A period at the start of a line | Line-end rule unknown | Put it in the last cell of the line above |
| Messy corrections | No correction method | Use the method the contest allows |
| Name written on the paper when it should not be | Instructions skipped | Check where names go |
| Inconsistent spacing between title and text | Drift while writing | Decide the page-one layout in advance |
Cell rules are covered in punctuation and title and name placement.
Check before the day
- Which paper you get (200 or 400 cells) and how many sheets.
- Whether the length is a maximum or an approximate target.
- Pen or pencil, and whether correction tape is allowed.
- Where your name goes. Some contests ban names on the paper to keep judging anonymous.
Practicing with the app

Match the paper format
In Manuscript style, pick the same format the contest uses, usually 200-cell or 400-cell.

Draft against the clock
Set a timer, write on your phone, and note how many sheets you end up with. After a few rounds you will know how much content fills a sheet.

Copy by hand from the View tab
Open the saved piece on the View tab and copy it onto real paper to measure your handwriting speed. Phones are often not allowed at the venue, so practice before the day.
The app’s English screenshots show a Korean sample text, because the grid is meant for writing in Korean.
FAQ
Will wongoji mistakes disqualify me?
Judging criteria vary and are often not published. Mistakes mostly hurt by making the text harder to read.
Can I write in pencil?
Only if the contest says so. Check the instructions.
