House rules
| Area | Agree on |
|---|---|
| Cigarettes and lighters | Kept out of your sight (their bag or car) |
| Where they smoke | Outside, not indoors or on the balcony (in apartments this also spares neighbors) |
| After smoking | Wash hands or change top to cut the smell |
| The car | No smoking in the car while you quit |
| Shared smoke breaks | Swap the after-dinner cigarette for a walk |
Smoke drifting between units is a common neighbor dispute. Rules for shared housing are in smoke-free housing rules.
What to ask for, what to avoid
- Ask — “don’t offer me one”, “don’t ask me to buy yours”, “come for a walk when I look rough”.
- Avoid — commenting on every cigarette they smoke or comparing your progress with theirs. Conflict becomes stress, and stress becomes urges.
Don’t push them to quit
A quit forced on two people tends to collapse when one of them slips. Once your quit has lasted a few weeks and home is calmer, partners often show interest on their own. Sharing where to get free help, such as a quitline or local stop smoking service, is enough.
Using your log

Count urges that start at home
Tap “Craving +1” in Quit Smoking Tracker and note “home, after dinner” in the memo. After a week you can see how many urges come from home, which gives you something concrete to agree rules on.

Show the calendar
The History tab marks every smoke-free day on a calendar. Showing it once often earns more support than explaining.
The app’s screenshots show sample amounts in Korean won (4,500 per pack is the app default), and the Settings sheet title is shown in Korean in the current English version. Enter your own local pack price; the calculation works the same in any currency.
FAQ
Just the smell of their smoke sets me off.
Smell can be a strong trigger in the first weeks. Ask them to wait a few minutes before coming close after a cigarette.
We have children and I worry about secondhand smoke.
Smoke lingers indoors. Agree that smoking happens outside only, and raise health concerns with your doctor.
