Photos always lean one way?
Measure the habit first

One crooked shot is a slip. The same lean every time has a cause. The problem is that it is usually around one degree, too small to see which way. So measure first, then change one thing at a time.

Usual suspects

Which one is yours varies from person to person, so data beats guessing.

Measure first

Take about 20 shots in the same conditions and look at the direction and size of each tilt. An average pulled to one side is a habit; tilts scattered evenly both ways are just shake.

Test one cause at a time

Change one thing, shoot another 20. If the average tilt drops, you found it.

Seeing the habit in the app

The Android app "Level Camera" saves the tilt of every shot and sums it up in the Stats tab.

Stats screen with Level success rate 100 percent A+, average tilt 0.69 degrees, Habit check saying shots lean 0.69 degrees to the left, and the Tilt distribution chart

Habit check

Habit check says something like "Your shots lean 0.69° to the left on average." If the average lean is under 0.3°, it reports no consistent lean. Check the Tilt distribution chart below it too: is the cluster shifted away from 0°?

Compare with auto shutter

Turn on Auto shutter in Capture settings and shoot for a while. The Auto shutter payoff card in Stats then shows the success rate for manual and auto shots side by side. If auto is clearly higher, the press was the culprit.

FAQ

How is the grade calculated?

From the share of photos inside your tolerance: 90% or more is A+, 75% A, 60% B, 40% C, and below that D. A tighter tolerance lowers the grade for the same hands.

Do older photos count?

Only photos with a recorded angle. Photos without one are marked No record and left out of the accuracy stats.
