Adding up items
| Item (example) | Rough weight |
|---|---|
| T-shirt | about 150–200 g |
| Jeans | about 500–700 g |
| Sneakers (pair) | about 700 g–1 kg |
| Laptop | about 1.2–2 kg |
| Hair dryer | about 400–600 g |
These are ballpark figures. A few heavy things dominate the total, so counting shoes, electronics and books carefully improves the estimate most.
The suitcase itself
The most forgotten number. Many large hard-shell suitcases weigh around 4–5 kg empty. Check the product details or tag.
Weighing without a luggage scale
- Bathroom scale — weigh yourself holding the suitcase, minus your own weight
- Portable luggage scale — handy on the way home when souvenirs pile up
- Self check-in scales at the airport, before the counter
One weigh-in fixes the next estimate
Know the ratio between your estimate and reality and you can apply it next time. Estimated 15 kg, weighed 18 kg? You pack about 20% heavier than you think.
Doing it in the app

Estimated weight per bag
Luggage weight at the top of the Packing List checklist shows estimated weight, limit and room to spare for checked and carry-on bags. Defaults are 23 kg checked and 10 kg carry-on, changeable per trip.
Enter the real weight
Tap Real weight and enter the airport scale reading once. It’s compared with the estimate and future trips’ weights are adjusted to your packing. Several weigh-ins are blended so one reading doesn’t swing it too far.
Airline allowances
Choose an airline to load its typical economy checked and carry-on limits (unlocked with one ad); typing kg yourself is always free. Allowances vary by route and fare, so confirm with your airline.
FAQ
Does the estimate include the suitcase?
It’s the sum of your items. Add the suitcase as an item with its weight to include it.
Can I reset the calibration?
Yes, from the real-weight screen.
