Three principles
- Lithium batteries → carry-on — power banks and spare batteries. Never checked.
- Knives and tools → checked — multitools, knives, most scissors, tools.
- Liquids over 100 ml → checked — only 100 ml containers in the cabin.
The confusing items
| Item | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Power bank | Carry-on | Banned from checked |
| Multitool, knife | Checked | Banned from the cabin |
| Full-size shampoo, sunscreen | Checked | Over 100 ml |
| Passport, wallet | Personal bag | Needed at borders and checkout |
| Prescription medicine | Carry-on | In case bags are lost or late |
| Laptop | Carry-on | Damage and loss risk |
| Hair dryer | Checked | Not regulated, but heavy and unused in flight |
Your personal bag
A carry-on in the overhead bin is hard to reach mid-flight. Keep what you’ll need during the flight (passport, boarding pass, phone, earphones, medicine, power bank) in a small personal bag at your feet.
Splitting it in the app

A bag for every item
Packing List lets you set checked, carry-on or personal bag per item, and catalog items come with a sensible bag already set. Each item shows something like "Carry-on · 40g".
Fill the bags
Fill the bags shows checked, carry-on and personal bags on one screen; long-press and drag to move items. Items breaking a rule are counted at the top and cleared as soon as you move them.
Rule alerts filter
The Rule alerts filter shows only items with battery, blade or liquid issues.
