All apps / Salary to Chicken guides

Two Korean job offers:
why the headline salary misleads

Company A offers 50M KRW, company B 52M. B looks better, but if B’s figure includes severance, A pays more every month. Put both offers on the same basis before deciding.

This guide is general information about pay, tax and social insurance in Korea, not tax, legal or labor advice. Rates and rules change every year and depend on your visa, nationality, residency status and employer. Confirm actual amounts with your payslip and payroll team, the National Tax Service (helpline 126, foreign-language service available), the National Pension Service (1355), the National Health Insurance Service (1577-1000) and the Ministry of Employment and Labor (1350). The app’s result is an estimate based on 2025 rates and has no legal effect.

Building the comparison sheet

  1. Work out regular-month gross for each offer (salary ÷ 12 or 13, no bonuses).
  2. Run each through a calculator and write down monthly take-home.
  3. Underneath, list incentives (gross), bonuses, housing and other cash benefits per year.
  4. Finally, divide take-home by real monthly hours for a real hourly wage. Long hours show up here.

On the Chicken tab, “Every work hour earns you N chickens” is take-home (after loan interest) ÷ 209 hours, converted at your chicken price. Set the price to 1 to read it in won.

FAQ

Should I ignore incentives completely?

Compare without non-guaranteed incentives first, then add them back based on what was actually paid in recent years.

If I am on the 19% flat rate, does the comparison change?

Yes. The flat rate taxes total pay including allowances, so allowance differences matter less. See the meal allowance and flat rate.
