Why the list stalls
- Only countable things fit in the columns: pay, commute, benefits.
- Feelings like "bored" or "anxious" are hard to score.
- When the columns get the same length, you end up more confused.
Write both chronicles
Write three lines for the path you are on and three for the path not taken.
| If I stay | If I switch | |
|---|---|---|
| 10 years later | one line | one line |
| 20 years later | one line | one line |
| 30 years later | one line | one line |
Tip: write scenes from a day, not titles or salaries. What do you do in the morning, who do you work with, what are you thinking about in the evening? Scenes reveal pulls and doubts that numbers hide.
Find what you envy
Underline the one sentence you envy most in the other chronicle. If it is a condition rather than the job itself, like "work with my name on it" or "control over my own time", check whether you can bring some of it into your current role before changing everything.
Reality checklist
- Have I asked two people on that path what their day is really like?
- Can I try it first through weekends, a side project or a short course?
- Do I have a plan to cover living costs during the switch?
- Is this decision reversible or not?
The chronicle in the app

What happens next
Open a universe card in Parallel Lives and tap See the chronicle. You get one line each for 10, 20 and 30 years later. It is a handy model for the sentence shape before you write your own.
The sample name in the screenshots is a placeholder; you can enter any name or nickname.
Move the what-if axes
In "What if I were a little different", move Stability ↔ Adventure and Solitude ↔ Connection and all six universes are rewoven. "Back to the original six" resets them. Notice whether the universes that appear when you push toward adventure excite or unsettle you.
FAQ
Can I pick a career from the app result?
No. The jobs and chronicles are creative text chosen from your name and birthday and cannot support a career decision. Use them only to get your own thoughts moving.
I wrote the chronicles and still can’t decide.
Run a small, reversible test first (a weekend class, a short project). Big decisions can wait until you have more information.
