Two kinds of progress

When they diverge

If you mostly visit…Count %Area %
Seoul and capital-area citiesHighLow
Mountain counties in Gangwon or North GyeongsangLowHigh
A few metropolitan citiesMediumVery low

Seoul’s districts are small and numerous; many single counties in Gangwon or North Gyeongsang are larger than all of Seoul.

Which to watch

Count shows variety; area shows how much of the country you’ve covered. A big gap means your travel clusters in one kind of place. To lift area %, head for big counties; to lift count %, pick metropolitan districts.
