Your own constellation:
three ways to connect the stars

The Big Dipper started as someone joining seven bright stars and giving them a name. The official list is fixed at 88, but anyone can still connect the dots.

In the real sky

  1. Pick an anchor star: start from the brightest one. A very bright point that doesn’t twinkle may be a planet.
  2. Use only 4 to 7 bright stars: more than that and the shape gets lost. The classic figures rely on bright stars too.
  3. Give it a name: an animal, an object, a place that matters to you.
  4. Note the season: the stars visible at a given hour change through the year, so write down the date and time.

A shape like this is what astronomers call an asterism. It will never be official, but it’s a handy way to say “those three stars over there.”

My Constellation is an app made for fun and reflection. The constellations, elements, guardian stars and match scores it shows are not real astronomical observations or astrology, and they carry no predictive power. Please don’t base relationships or important decisions on them.

Make one in the app and redraw it

The sample name and journal text in these screenshots were typed in Korean; the app itself runs fully in English.

My Sky
1

Build it from a name and birthday

In My Constellation, enter a name and date of birth on the first tab, My Sky, and a star layout with connecting lines appears. The same input always draws the same constellation.

2

Redraw the lines

Tap Draw Your Lines, tap one star, then tap another to link them. Tap an existing line the same way to erase it. The meaning of your sign (element, guardian star, lucky number) never changes, and Restore original lines brings back the first shape.

3

Choose the night sky

The round colour buttons above the sky switch between Midnight, Dawn, Aurora and Desert Night.

FAQ

Can I register my constellation officially?

No. Constellation boundaries and star names are set by the IAU, which doesn’t take requests from individuals. See buying a star name.

Can I include a planet?

Planets move against the stars, so within weeks your shape would break. For a lasting shape, use stars only.
